Sotogrande region has many qualifiers. When we think about this place, glamour, luxury, beach, tranquility comes to mind … What nobody can imagine is that it also has waters with quite abundant wildlife.
It is becoming a habit for many of our clients to notify us of the presence of dolphins. These mammals approach the coast frequently, allowing many of our clients to enjoy an even greater experience.
“Dolphins approach the coast frequently, which allows many of our clients to enjoy a great experience.”
Dolphins are very human friendly and you will notice it right away, as it is normal for them to start following you while you are sailing. They usually go in groups, so if you see one there will probably be more. We can assure you that it is one of those experiences that are never forgotten. A good trick, which often works, is that if you see a group of seagulls flying near the sea, it might be them.
It is not the only visitor you can find. During the days when the water is crystal clear and the calm tide can be seen on the surface a fin bent to one side. Don’t worry, it’s not a shark. These fish are called ocean sunfish, and although it seems that they are very still or half dead, it is their way of being. You can get closer and see them at a short distance, since many are not scared by your presence.
If you are sailing parallel to the beach, but a little far, it is also very common to find flying fish in our path. We will be able to observe how these fish come out of the water in our path and accompany us by flying for a few meters until they submerge again in the water.
Finally, if you consider yourself a lucky family and you are at the right time, you may see the odd blanket that comes to the surface to take a breath. This is undoubtedly very difficult since the possibilities are quite small. But who knows, maybe you are one of the lucky few who can live it.
